If you’re going for a flat stomach or six pack, diet and cardio are far more important than how you work the actual abs. If you’re just going for strength and overall fitness, I do a bunch of variations of leg raises.

You can do them flat on your back raising your feet 6 inches off the ground and hold it a few seconds and repeat.

You can also find a pull up bar and while hanging from it with your arms, just bring your knees up above your waist (no swinging!)

Once you build up enough strength try using the same pull up bar, but instead keeping your legs straight and bringing them up until you form a right angle.

Most importantly, make sure you have full body control for best results, also to avoid injury.
